Nijuichidaishu (二十一代集)

Nijuichidaishu is a collective term for the 21 anthologies compiled by Imperial command as a state project, beginning with "Kokin Wakashu" (A Collection of Ancient and Modern Japanese Poetry) and ending with "Shinshoku Kokin Wakashu" (The New Collection of Ancient and Modern Japanese Poetry Continued). The collection incorporates the 'Hachidaishu' (The Eight Imperial Anthologies of Japanese Poetry) and 'Jusandaishu' (The Thirteen Imperial Anthologies of Japanese Poetry). The three collections subsequent to Kokinshu are also referred to as 'Sandaishu' (Three Major Collections, including the New Collection of Ancient and Modern Poetry, the Gosen Collection of Poetry and the Shui Collection of Poetry).

Sandaishu and Hachidaishu

Books one through three are collectively referred to as Sandaishu and books one through eight as Hachidaishu.
